Health authorities have reported more than 11,000 local cases and 260 deaths, mostly in the last five weeks. The government has imposed a soft lockdown in an effort to slow the spread, shutting schools and recreational facilities but they have so far proved reluctant to implement measures that may impact the export-focused manufacturing sector that is the main drive of the economy.
Many companies out source to countries where the labor is less expensive or the raw materials are readily available. The Taiwanese have a reputation for creating great and inexpensive clothes, for growing high quality crops from which some of our food and many different kinds of materials are made. However, Taiwan is once again, in complete shut down since the beginning of September.
This shut down has affected US businesses which rely on the availability of labor and materials. Those businesses have also slowed down their operation until other replacement sources can be found. The pandemic has effect not only on the business and its clients, but it also hinders the brand, contracts and your income.
